Tight contests in the quarter-finals of the 100th Hungarian Elite National Championships

There are several competitions this week, selections for the next season, and among them the Hungarian Elite National Championships is an important event.

The Aladar Gerevich Sport Complex is the host of the Hungarian Elite National Championships in Budapest where almost all of their female and male boxers are on the board.

The Hungarian Boxing Association’s main national competition is their 100th anniversary event, since it was launched still back in 1923.

Altogether 165 elite boxers including 55 girls are competing for the 25 available gold medals in the National Championships where the preliminaries and the quarter-finals delivered several tight contests.

Vivien Budai was quarter-finalist at the 2019 European Games and she moved down to the lightweight (60kg) successfully in the previous months. The 24-year-old boxer eliminated Viktoria Ujvari in the quarter-finals by unanimous decision but she can expect a hard battle in the last four against a former Kazakh star, Vladislava Kukhta.

There are seven strong girls in the Hungarian National Championships who competes at the women’s heavyweight (+81kg). The European Youth Champion Zsofia Szira and the European U22 Championships silver medallist Reka Hoffmann both won their quarter-finals by RSC.

Gabor Virban, the silver medallist at the last Bocskai Memorial Tournament, was too strong for Peter Elias in the quarter-finals of the bantamweight (54kg), but Tibor Katona, the ex-Ukrainian Bilostotskyi Rostyslav and Laszlo Bernath also advanced to the last four.

The welterweight (67kg) is one of the strongest categories at the Hungarian Elite National Championships and a 19-year-old talent, Dominik Enekes delivered the surprise of the day when he bowed out a veteran, the multiple National Champion Milan Fodor.

The Youth World Championships silver medallist Levente Gemes is only 18 but he had the technical skills and the speed to beat Alistratov Mykyta at the busy light middleweight (71kg) in one of the best fights of the session.
