Chelsey Heijnen, Natalia Kuczewska and Laura Horvath won their openers in the Bocskai Memorial

The 69th edition of the Bocskai Memorial Tournament started with 22 female and male contests in East Hungary today and some of the stars opened their campaigns successfully.

The 69th Bocskai Memorial Tournament will be held in Debrecen, Hungary as all of the previous competitions but the date moved to March 10-16.

Poland’s Natalia Kuczewska and Czechia’s Claudia Totova both were born in 2003 and they have experience in the junior, youth, U22 and elite competitions as well. The former Youth World silver medallist Polish girl looked more prepared to this contest and she won it by unanimous decision.

Hungary’s 19-year-old Laura Horvath proved her progress in the recent Golden Girl Box Cup and she found the best fighting distance against Wales’ Zoe Andrews in time and she took a big scalp at the women’s bantamweight (54kg).

Netherlands’ Paris Olympian Chelsey Heijnen made also a strong debut in Debrecen, she stopped Dominika Nemeth while Poland’s teenager, Kinga Krowka also proved her talent in the women’s 65kg weight class.

Poland’s Aleksandra Cyrek eliminated Hungary’s European silver medallist Regina Lakos while Lithuania’s Aleksandr Trofimcuk and Czechia’s Simon Bartecek also eliminated Hungarian boxers on Day1.

Azerbaijan’s Mahammadali Gasimzade has just joined the elite age group this January but he was an outstanding boxer among the junior and youth talents. The Azeri lightweight (60kg) boxer was dominant against Slovakia’s Lukas Vymyslicky in all of the three rounds.

Hungary’s European Championships bronze medallist Roland Veres eliminated his younger teammate Daniel Frank at the lightweight (60kg) while another local favourite, Kruzito Kovacs stopped his rival in his opener.
