Norman Jr stops Cuevas, defends WBO welterweight title
Brian Norman Jr (27-0, 21 KOs) stopped Derrieck Cuevas (27-2-1, 19 KOs) in round three on Saturday night in Las Vegas, and retained the WBO World welterweight title.
For Norman Jr. was the first title defense. He made a quick work in the main fight of the card promoted by Top Rank.
After the fight Norman Jr called out the WBC champion Mario Barrios (29-2-1, 18 KOs) for an unification bout.
“Barrios over there hiding in the corner doing his little thing or whatever,” Norman Jr. said. “Where he at man? I’m trying to get that belt up off of you. Everybody trying to go undisputed out here and you’re just sitting over here babysitting. I need to go ahead and get that up off him and go undisputed with whoever wins the fight on April 12.”
In co-main event Mikaela Mayer (21-2) defeated Sandy Ryan (7-3-1) for the second time and defended the WBO World welterweight title.
