Scott, Terwint and Umar won the male awards at the 43rd Gee Bee Tournament
Sweden’s Kevin Scott, Netherlands’ Kian Terwint and Finland’s Ismail Umar won awards at the 43rd edition of the Gee Bee Tournament in Helsinki.
The Gee Bee Tournament was a great international competition with excellent possibilities to prepare for the big championships this year.
Two Germans met in the final of the men’s 50kg and among them the more experienced Miles Okay won the title over Mustafa Hamad while Wales’ No.1, Scott Richards claimed only a bronze medal this time.
Netherlands’ National Champion Kian Terwint is absolutely newcomer in the international stage of boxing but he earned the title of the Gee Bee after beating Australia’s Paris Olympian Yusuf Chothia in a superb contest and he was named as the best technical boxer of the event.
Finland’s Ismail Umar eliminated such a big name in the Gee Bee as Chinese Taipei’s two-time Olympian Lai Chu En and he was highly confident against his teammate, Dmitri Kataja to take the title of the 65kg.
England’s William Hewitt and Kyle Shaw-Tullin succeeded in their final contests against Dutch and Australian opponents and both earned their career highlights with these gold medals in Helsinki.
The 23-year-old Kevin Scott became the best boxer of the Gee Bee Tournament this year and he had a tough battle against Netherlands’ Finn Bos at the busy 70kg final bout which resulted a tight success to the Swedish No.1.
Germany’s Oliver Ginkel defeated Lithuania’s Arvydas Dainys at the 80kg weight class proving his strong development this year. Yasse Cisse had a surprise success over another German, the World Olympic Qualifying Event competitor Tyron Amo, while Norway’s Olympian Omar Shiha walked over to the super heavyweight title.
