Gilbert Kabamba’s KO and the Kyrgyz boxers were the highlights of the finals in Pueblo

The men’s boxers from Kyrgyzstan and Gilbert Kabamba’s KO were the main highlights in the final day at the USA Boxing International Open Tournament in the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colorado.

Kyrgyzstan’s Strandja Memorial Tournament winner Anvarzhan Khodzhiyev defeated Australia’s Omer Izaz and United States’ Mathews Turcios to take the men’s 50kg title in Pueblo using his brilliant technical skills.

The next Kyrgyz finalist, Zafarbek Kamilov is only 19-year-old but he has a long list of international bouts from the recent four years. The Kyrgyz boy had a tough battle in the final of the 55kg against Francis Stewart but he managed that success by 3:2 split decision.

Kyrgyzstan’s Paris Olympic silver medallist Munarbek Seitbek Uulu controlled all of his contests at the men’s 60kg in this event which he used as return to the sport. He defeated Edem Kokou Amedjonekou, Jeremiah Valerio and Jerimiah Munoz as well to earn the gold medal in this busy weight class.

United States’ Marcus Luther is a teenager in the elite national team but the U19 World Championships competitor delighted the experts with his performance against Miles Nguyen in the final of the 65kg.

Kyrgyzstan’s Boxam Tournament winner Ikhtiyor Nishonov had to meet in the final of the 70kg with his teammate, Eldar Turdubayev in the battle of the U22 boxers. Nishonov was smarter in most of the exchanges and he won their meeting which worked as selection between the two youngsters.

Canada’s Younes Chetouani had a surprises success over Afghanistan’s Asian U22 silver medallist US-based Qais Alizada at the 80kg but Leroy Clark (90kg) and the KO-king Gilbert Kabamba also made the event as remarkable.
