Belgium’s historic event, the Brussels Capital Tournament will begin with 23 bouts today
Belgium’s first international competition after long time, the Brussels Capital Tournament will start with 23 bouts today. Altogether 33 female and 49 male boxers are on the board of Belgium’s new international event.
Belgium reached several historic milestones in boxing in the recent four years and their officials decided to launch a new event, the Brussels Capital Tournament.
The Brussels Capital Tournament will be held for the female and male elite boxers in the capital city of Belgium between April 25 and 27.
Australia, Belgium, France, India, Italy, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, Poland, Serbia, Switzerland and Turkey all sent their teams to Brussels.
The women boxers will be able to compete in six various weight categories as the 48kg, 51kg, 54kg, 57kg, 60kg and 65kg.
The men’s weight categories will be the 55kg, 60kg, 65kg, 70kg, 75kg, 80kg, 85kg, 90kg and +90kg in the competition.
Before the first Brussels Capital Tournament, there were an international pre-training camp at the National Trainings Center between April 10 and 23.
Italy’s returning Giovanna Marchese and Poland’s Marta Prill will open the entire competition in Brussels at the women’s 51kg weight class.
Serbia’s Tokyo Olympics quarter-finalist Nina Radovanovic will meet also an Italian boxer, the teenage talent Martina Vassallo in the same weight.
Belgium’s new female national team members such as Narjiss Barmoussa (51kg) and Sarah Renders (60kg) also will make their starts in the first day of boxing.
Italy’s Rebecca Nicoli and Netherlands’ Chelsey Heijnen both are Olympian boxers and the two powerful punchers will meet at the women’s 60kg on Day1.
Montenegro’s Bojana Gojkovic, Kosovo’s World medallist Donjeta Sadiku, France’s Makan Traore and Italy’s Alfred Commey will be also in actions on Day1.
