Excellent final line-ups at the 29th Algirdas Socikas Tournament in Kaunas
The final line-ups will guarantee the top quality of boxing at the 29th edition of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania.
Altogether 84 boxers are participating in the Algirdas Socikas Tournament in one female and ten male weight categories.
Tye Dixon is Australia’s top talent and he started his campaign in Kaunas with a great performance against Raimondas Trapulionis at the 55kg weight class. The young Aussie boxer will meet Turkey’s European Champion Samet Gumus for the title who had a hard success over Yusuf Chothia.
Lithuania’s Edgaras Skurdelis returned to the national team and the most experienced elite male boxer of the entire tournament is now a finalist. The veteran Lithuanian had the pressure against Australia’s teenager Jacob Cassar and he will now meet for the gold medal Mehmethan Cinar of Turkey.
Scotland’s new face at the 65kg, Leo Church succeeded over Jokubas Arkadijevas and he has the plan to take the title against Australia’s strong Fred Zzina, a winner against a local boxer, Nedas Gudomskas.
Lithuania’s Aleksandr Trofimcuk had excellent results in the international stage between 2017 and 2024 therefore he has high expectations in Kaunas. The 23-year-old Lithuanian marched to the finals of the 70kg after beating Sonny Kerr of Scotland in a superb battle.
Lithuania’s next finalist will be Robertas Liorancas who eliminated Moldova’s promising Valeriu Razmerita at the 80kg weight class. He will be facing for the title of the category with another local hero, Gabrielus Savickas, who bowed out Emre Parlak of Turkey.
The super heavyweight is always a strong category in Lithuania and their Algirdas Baniulis worked hard to beat Aydemir Ugur of Turkey therefore he can box for the title against Scotland’s Mitchell Barton.
