The Lithuanians impressed in the finals of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament

The Lithuanian kept seven gold medals on home soil at the 29^th edition of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament in Kaunas, Lithuania.

Lithuania’s European Championships bronze medallist Ana Starovoitova won the lone female final of the Algirdas Socikas Tournament, she won two out of the three rounds against New Zealand’s Ali Lai-Carlyle at the 60kg weight class.

Moldova sent a team to the Algirdas Socikas Tournament and their Catalin Turcu bagged the gold medal of the men’s 50kg weight category after beating Turkey’s Talat Yagu while Lithuania’s veteran Edgaras Skurdelis walked over to the title of the 60kg.

Turkey’s European Champion Samet Gumus defeated another Olympian boxer, Yusuf Chothia in the semi-finals. Following that close bout, he had the second tight victory over the next Aussie talent, Tye Dixon at the 55kg.

Scotland’s new face in the elite national team, Leo Church not only joined the final of the men’s 65kg weight class but he triumphed over Australia’s strong Fred Zzina, making a bit U-turn in the third round of their meeting.

Lithuania’s former European Junior silver medallist Aleksandr Trofimcuk won several international tournaments during his career. The 23-year-old Lithuanian was too smart for Turkey’s Faruk Gurkan Dalgic at the 70kg final bout making the local fans proud.

Lithuania’s experienced Robertas Liorancas had a local battle at the 80kg final against Gabrielus Savickas and he succeeded in the narrowest bout of the third day before Darius Voisnarovic won the 85kg weight category in Kaunas.

Lithuania’s Jonas Jazevicius moved down to the 90kg weight class and he had the routine to beat Moldova’s Andrei Zaplitnii in the final. Algirdas Baniulis, who stopped Scotland’s Mitchell Barton in the last final of the day, achieved the super heavyweight title.
