The Pirkka Tournament opened with 56 bouts in Tampere
Fifty-six contests were held for the U19, U17, U15 and U13 boxers at the Pirkka Tournament in Tampere, Finland on Day1.
Altogether 149 boxers are participating at the Pirkka U19-U17-U15-U13 Tournament in four different age groups, representing 10 nations.
Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and Wales are the participating countries at the Pirkka Tournament this year.
Netherlands’ Zoe Vogels was born in a boxing family and she had an aggressive attacking style of boxing to smash Estonia’s Fia Delisa Lehe at the women’s U17 63kg.
Hungary’s European Championships competitor Hunor Asztalos controlled all of the three rounds against Finland’s Matias Tiikkaja and he joined the final of the men’s U17 60kg where Leon Kaislama will be waiting for him.
Poland’s Jakub Gruszka is another big name at the men’s U17 age group who opened his campaign successfully against Sweden’s Ozay Kilic but Finland’s Joona Hietanemi and Wales’ Jenzen Miguel-Powell also impressed on Day1.
Finland’s Aapo Rovenperae competed in the 2024 edition of the U19 World Boxing Championships in Pueblo and those experiences paid off against Joel Jaervinen in a superb U19 semi-final bout in Tampere.
Poland has an amazing U19 male team and their Filip Bochenek (55kg), Igor Soczowka (60kg), Jan Januszewski (65kg), Adam Baginski (70kg), Wojciech Jurowski (70kg) and Borys Plachta (80kg) all succeeded in the opening day of boxing.
Iceland sent also several boxers to the Pirkka Tournament and their 16-year-old Kormakur Steinn Jonsson won his opener against a local boy, Nuutti Oksala. Another Icelandic talent, Ronald Bjarki Manason delivered a brilliant success against Chowin Ea at the U19 age group.
