The 74th Bornemissza Memorial Tournament opened with busy preliminaries

More than seventy bouts were on the official program of the first competition day at the 74th edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament in Eger, Hungary.

The traditional Bornemissza Memorial arranged for the U19, U17 and U15 boxers and for both genders in Hungary’s city.

The Bornemissza Memorial Tournament is one of the oldest European international competitions next to the Strandja Memorial, the Golden Gloves and the Bocskai Memorial.

Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Ukraine are participating in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament.

The competition was named after a Hungarian lieutenant, a national hero, Gergely Bornemissza who supported the successful defence of the Castle of Eger during the Ottoman Siege in 1552.

Ukraine’s Semen Tkachov and Kyrylo Chumakov were amazing in the men’s U15 age group, the duo defeated Hungarian and Czech opponent with top performance but Latvia’s Silvestrs Vasilevskis also succeeded proving his great technical skills.

Latvia’s Timurs Gulbis stopped Hungary’s Levente Vincze at the men’s U17 70kg weight class and he spent only one minute in the ring to make that happen.

Hungary’s Mate Vidak exceeded the expectations in his opener and he eliminated Slovakia’s experienced Peter Triebel in Eger, causing a small surprise in the event.

Italy’s Miriam Di Savino competed in various international events during her career and she had the skills to beat Poland’s Julia Swita at the women’s U19 75kg weight class while hear teammate, Sara Battistella also amazed the crowd on Day1.

France’s Mohammed Djemmal won youth events in the recent one year and he opened his campaign with a superb success over Zeteny Erdos at the men’s U19 60kg.
