Calugar, Arndell, Al-Tarmimi, Horvath, Ogorelica and Zakrzewski all celebrated their titles in Eger
The fifth and last competition day delivered outstanding U17 and U19 finals at the 74th edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament in Eger, Hungary.
Romania’s Madalin Calugar won the first U17 male title in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament, the youngster dominated his 46kg final bout against Ukraine’s Zakhar Melnyk in Eger.
Ukraine’s Yevhen Horvat is a big talent in our sport and he controlled the 54kg final against his teammate in Eger before France’s David Harutyunyan defeated Italy’s Alessandro Facioni in a fantastic 60kg final bout among the U17 boys.
Hungary’s Istvan Czifra became the lone Hungarian U17 male boxer who kept the gold medal of the Bornemissza Memorial on home soil. Norway’s Mathias Nielsen exceeded all of the previous expectations in the final of the U17 66kg and he defeated a top Ukrainian, Viktor Bilohub for the gold medal.
Netherlands’ Samir Arndell was not a well-known boxer before the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament but he moved forward step by step and he claimed the title of the 75kg weight class against Hungary’s Alex Domjan.
Denmark’s Reda Al-Tarmimi arrived to the Bornemissza Memorial as one of the favourites and he succeeded at the U19 age group’s smallest weight class, at the 50kg, following his success over Italy’s Tommaso Orlando.
Hungary’s Junior World quarter-finalist Andras Horvath won one of the busiest weight categories in Eger, the 17-year-old boxer triumphed over Ukraine’s David Zhyhzhzhavin at the 60kg division.
Norway’s Stefan Ogorelica proved his strong potential and he had the dominance over Sweden’s Maxi Nygard at the 70kg final bout while Italy’s Sasha Mencaroni (55kg), Slovakia’s Sebastian Chocholacek (65kg), Sweden’s Divine Ejesum (75kg) and Poland’s Krzysztof Zakrzewski (+90kg) all earned U19 titles in Eger.
