The Portimao Box Cup opened with a busy session in five rings
The Portimao Box Cup opened with its first session in five rings at the Arena Portimao where the junior, youth and elite began their campaigns.
England’s Philip Anderson and Spain’s Efren Hernandez opened the first contest in the entire Portimao Box Cup in the junior age group while Thomas Nicholson from the West Auckland also impressed in the start.
A local junior talent, Lucas Lopes and Joel Eyi had a great rhythm bout in their opener and the Portimao-based boxer was slightly better in the exchanges today to win their meeting.
Spain’s Miguel Garcia enjoyed his speed advantage against Gustavo Pomba in the first elite bout of the session and he won their lightweight (60kg) meeting with confidence style of boxing.
Northern Ireland’s Zach Cole trains in the famous Immaculata ABC and he had the technical skills to beat Norman Nation at the men’s junior bantamweight (54kg) in Ring 5 today.
The youth boxers also began their campaigns in the Portimao Box Cup in the first session of the day and among them France’s Leo Bequet and England’s Frank Bebb had a superb battle and the first won their tight meeting today.
Deividas Pakulis has strong Lithuanian roots but he trains in the Ramsgate ABC in England and he proved his excellent progress this year. The youth light welterweight (63.5kg) boxer stopped quickly a Portuguese, Cesar Sinnesael with heavy punches.
Steven Hutchinson had serious height disadvantage against Spain’s Samuel Cilla at the men’s junior lightweight (60kg), he used aggressive style of boxing to reduce the fighting distance, but the Spaniard was enough skilled to beat him.
Bernardo Costa Rodrigues is one of the most experienced Portuguese youth boxers who faced Switzerland’s Marouane Escala at the welterweight (67kg) but he suffered a loss today.
