Kaian Reis and Wasim Abusal had brilliant openers at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem

Brazil’s Kaian Reis and Palestine’s Wasim Abusal both made excellent debuts at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia on Day1.

The Grand Prix Usti nad Labem has several decades of tradition in our sport and dozens of stars competed in the previous editions.

Palestine’s Wasim Abusal competed in all levels of boxing despite his young age including the Paris Olympics and he had the technician performance against Slovakia’s Erik Katona to win their meeting at the men’s 60kg weight class.

Canada’s Keoma Al-Ahmadieh bagged a bronze medal at 2022 Commonwealth Games at the age of 19 and he returned to the national team with upgraded skills. The Canadian enjoyed a clear pathway to the next round against Mongolia’s Enkhtur Tegshjargal who has just won the Eindhoven Box Cup.

Japan sent a strong delegation to the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem and their Shunsuke Kitamoto (60kg) and Shion Nishiyama (65kg) both succeeded on Day1. Nishiyama had the harder job in the first session, he triumphed over Canada’s newcomer Omar Zaatiti only by split decision.

Brazil’s Kaian Reis is a new sensation in their national team who shocked Japan’s World Champion and two-time Olympian Sewon Okazawa at the men’s 70kg weight class where Hungary’s Rafael Buza and Czechia’s Kelvin Soquessa also impressed.

Germany’s Tokyo Olympian Ammar Abduljabbar moved down to the 80kg this year and he started well against Turkey’s Bayram Malkan in the first round. The German had the advantage on the scorecards but his Turkish opponent knocked him out in the second round.

Brazil’s World silver medallist Wanderley Pereira delivered a sensational performance at the men’s 80kg in Usti nad Labem where he outpointed Italy’s European U22 Champion Alfred Commey before Canada’s Denis Nickenson stopped his local Czech opponent.
