Strong Japanese boxers at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem
Japan lost its best male boxer, the World Champion Sewon Okazawa in the first preliminary round but their younger hopes as Makino, Yamaguchi, Kitamoto and Nishiyama all are semi-finalists.
Japan’s Soushi Makino moved down to the 50kg weight and he had the clear dominance against Canada’s teenager Randy Pollines before his teammate, Rui Yamaguchi outpointed Scotland’s Aaron Cullen.
Brazil’s Luiz Gabriel Oliveira was American Champion, Paris Olympian and he is an ace at the men’s 60kg weight class but he had to do his very best to beat United States’ newcomer in the international stage, Thomas Covington.
Japan’s further talents in men’s boxing such as Shunsuke Kitamoto (60kg) and Shion Nishiyama (65kg) both defeated their experienced rivals, Canada’s Keoma Al Ahmadieh and Turkey’s Aykol Mizan.
Germany’s Denis Bril was near to qualify for the Paris Olympics despite his young age and he moved up to the 65kg weight class this year. The German boxer found the best rhythm in time against Italy’s Gianluigi Malanga and he eliminated a top rival in Usti nad Labem.
Hungary’s Paris Olympian Pylyp Akilov was not in shape at the recent Bocskai Memorial Tournament but he looked sharp and focused from the first seconds against Japan’s Go Wakaya to win this 80kg quarter-final.
Turkey’s Bayram Malkan had big issues in the first preliminary round but after that he was able to knock out his German opponent. Brazil’s Wanderley Pereira also controlled the exchanges against him and he had the advantage but the South American was disqualified in the third round of their quarter-final.
Canada’s Denis Nickenson stopped his first opponent at the men’s 80kg weight class and the North American boxer continued his winning path against Mexico’s young Emiliano Reducindo who came from a boxing family.
