Brazil, United States, Mexico, Japan, Finland and Belgium shared the female titles at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem

Six nations shared the women’s gold medals at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem in Czechia on the final day.

Japan’s Hikaru Shinohara fought out her place in the elite national team this April during the National Selection Tournament and the former Asian Youth Champion became the first winner at the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem where she defeated Slovakia’s Nicole Durikova.

Finland’s Paris Olympian Pihla Kaivo-Oja had a tight victory in the semi-finals of the women’s 51kg but she looked more prepared in the final against Japan’s Yuna Nishinaka. The referee counted her Asian opponent in the third round which guaranteed a gold medal for Finland.

England’s two-time Olympian Charley Davison returned to the national team after a short break and she is now on the focus to compete at the upcoming World Championships on home soil. Davison’s form is better and better but Yoseline Perez was stronger in their final before another US girl, Alyssa Mendoza landed enough uppercuts to beat her Mongolian rival, Erdenedalai Michidmaa at the 57kg.

Canada’s Marie Al Ahmadieh and Brazil’s Rebeca Santos both had excellent youth career and they progressed a lot in all aspects of boxing. The Brazilian, who replaced the star Beatriz Ferreira in the squad, was energetic in the final to win the title of the 60kg.

Belgium’s Oshin Derieuw defeated Hungary’s Luca Hamori two-times in the recent two years and they met in a fantastic repeat match in the final of the 65kg. The judges had hard job to pick the winner but finally Derieuw’s hand was raised who earned the title of this strong weight class.

The Panamerican female boxers controlled the heaviest weight categories, Brazil’s duo, the veteran Barbara Dos Santos (70kg) and Viviane Pereira (75kg), additionally Mexico’s Vanessa Citlalli Ortiz (80kg).
