Bouafia and Georges were the sensations at the Astana World Boxing Cup on Day1

France’s Soheb Bouafia and United States’ Malachi Georges caused the sensations at the Astana World Boxing Cup on Day1.

Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States and Uzbekistan are the 29 participating nations at the Astana World Boxing Cup.

Philippines’ Mark Ashley Fajardo is famous for his powerful punches, faced an even younger opponent, the 19-year-old Viktorio Iliev, and the Bulgarian found the best strategy to win their contest at the men’s 65kg weight category.

The Japanese boxers impressed in the recent main competitions and their Shion Nishiyama had to do his very best to beat Canada’s strong Omar Zaatiti at the men’s 65kg weight class.

Brazil’s Kaian Oliveira Reis won the Grand Prix Usti nad Labem on June and the 23-year-old boxer survived the first preliminary battle against Turkey’s experienced Necat Ekinci at the 70kg weight class.

England’s Patrick Hewitt and Sweden’s Kevin Scott also won their 70kg preliminary bouts by split decisions but they managed to eliminate Japan’s Rento Tanaka and Australia’s Max Morley in Astana.

France’s Soheb Bouafia joined the national team in 2018 and he decided to continue his career to win a medal. The French exceeded his previous limits against England’s Isaac Okoh and he had a small surprise with his 3:2 split decision triumph.

United States’ Malachi Georges was not the favourite against Italy’s European Champion and World silver medallist Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine but he knocked out his rival in the first round of the 90kg weight category, securing the top sensation of the day.
