Finland’s sensation, Pihla Kaivo-Oja was brilliant in Astana
Finland’s Pihla Kaivo-Oja is exceptional once again at the Astana World Boxing Cup where she defeated a multiple Asian Champion with confidence.
Australia, Azerbaijan, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chinese Taipei, Croatia, Dominican Republic, England, Finland, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nigeria, Norway, Philippines, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United States and Uzbekistan are the 29 participating nations at the Astana World Boxing Cup.
Finland had some excellent results in women’s boxing in the recent 10 years but their currently best boxer, Pihla Kaivo-Oja exceeded all of the expectations in Astana where she defeated a multiple Asian Champion Uzbek, Sabina Bobokulova using her longer reach.
France’s Wassila Lkhadiri earned several medals during her career and she had a strong performance against a younger Mongolian, Balsan Mungunsaran and she is now a medallist in Astana.
Kazakhstan’s Alua Balkybekova impressed in her previous three main championships and she used her 12 years of international experience to beat Japan’s Yuna Nishinaka at the women’s 51kg.
Turkey’s Tokyo Olympic Champion Busenaz Surmeneli had a hard job in the quarter-finals of the women’s 65kg, but finally her hand was raised after the last gong against India’s Neeraj Phogat, before Kazakhstan’s World Champion Aida Abikeyeva dominated her quarter-final.
Uzbekistan’s two-time Asian Champion Navbakhor Khamidova and United States’ Paris Olympian Morelle McCane both managed their pathways to the semi-finals of the women’s 65kg weight class with confidence.
Kazakhstan’s Yeldana Talipova defeated the Uzbek girl, Ottinoy Sotimboyeva in the Asian final eight months ago and she repeated the same in a close battle in Astana on Day5.
