Jesse Rodriguez defeats Cafu, unifies titles
Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez (22-0, 15 KOs) unified the WBC and WBO World titles in super-flyweight division, stopping on Saturday night Phumelela Cafu (11-1-3) in round ten.
After a flurry of punches from Rodriguez, Cafu team threw the towel.
Rodriguez is expected next to fight in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on November 22 against Fernando Daniel Martinez (18-0) for undisputed title in super-flyweight division.
“It was a great performance and the best performance of my career against the toughest opponent and fight of my career,” said Rodriguez. “All credit goes to Cafu. He was a lot tougher than I thought he would be. He had better pop than I expected. I knew he had power, but not like that. He was in it to win it and had a good game plan. But we got the job done.”
