The Olympic medallist Atheyna Bylon returned with a gold medal at the Copa America
The Copa America was held for the elite and youth boxers in the city of Ibague, Tolima, Colombia which was an eight-days long competition.
Strong figures, 34 female and 59 elite male boxers competed for the sixteen available gold medals in the Copa America in Colombia.
Additionally, 13 female youth and 28 male youth boxers also participated in the Copa America to take titles in this preparation competition.
Argentina, Australia, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, and Venezuela were the participating nations at the Copa America in Ibague.
Argentina’s No.1., the Women’s World bronze medallist Florencia Lopez knew her veteran opponent, Venezuela’s Irismar Cardozo well enough and she used the best tactics to win this women’s 51kg final bout.
Colombia’s Rio Olympics bronze medallist Ingrit Valencia decided to continue her career and the veteran was a hard target for a strong opponent, Ecuador’s Helen Sanchez in their respective final contest.
Colombia’s amila Camilo is only 22-year-old but she has four years of international experience to beat such opponents, as Genesis Palma of Venezuela at the female 65kg weight.
Panama’s Olympic silver medallist Atheyna Bylon and Australia’s World medallist Emma-Sue Greentree had a unique final fight at the women’s 75kg which was won the first unanimously.
Following Billy Arias’ gold medal at the men’s 55kg, Colombia’s Olympian Yilmar Gonzalez was slightly better than Santiago Celes of Argentina at the 60kg.
Mexico’s Hugo Barron made a surprise against Venezuela’s Olympian Jesus Cova at the 65kg, while Ecuador’s Jose Gabriel Rodriguez was too smart for Keiner Berrocal from Colombia B at the 70kg.
Gerlon Congo is an athletic boxer at the super heavyweight who won the last elite male title in Ibague against Willys Mendoza of Colombia.
