What we know about the boxing at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics – Facts & Figures

Dakar will host one of the most important competitions, the Youth Olympic Games in 2026 and its date is from October 31 to November 13.

The Youth Olympics will be the first huge multisport event hosting by the IOC in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics’ cycle. Dakar will host the first ever Olympic event in the African continent next year and the Games will feature 247 events in 36 sports including boxing.

The International Olympic Committee released the first look at the competition schedule for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics. The last edition of the Youth Olympic Games was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2018.

Boxing returned to the official Olympic program this March and the exact agenda has been approved by the IOC.

As 2700 athletes will be able to compete in the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympics, boxing will have 120 spots for the five female and five male weight categories.

The Gender Equality is one of the key principles in the next edition of the Youth Olympic Games therefore the same number of spots are available, 60 female and 60 male quotas for Dakar 2026 where the venue is the B1 Stade National Iba Mar Diop.

The qualification spots per weight categories are not decided yet but the average number of boxers per weight is 12 in Dakar which is a new record in the event’s boxing history.

Boxers must be born between 14 November 2008 and 31 December 2009 according to the principles of the International Olympic Committee.

The participating National Federations should be affiliated to World Boxing and send their teams to the qualification event of the Games in 2026.

The qualification event for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games will be the U19 World Boxing Future’s Cup in the first quarter of next year. The exact date and the venue of the U19 Cup will be decided later this year.
