Terwint was the youngest winner of the session while Ibanez and Alcantara eliminated favourites in Liverpool

Kian Terwint was the youngest winner of the afternoon session of the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool today and next to him, Javier Ibanez and Junior Alcantara also won key contests.

Dominican Republic’s Junior Alcantara and Philippines’ Carlo Paalam both claimed Olympic medals during their career. The Dominican has just moved up to the 55kg and he worked well enough to win the first top bout of the day.

Spain’s Olympian Rafael Lozano Serrano also has just moved up to the 55kg and he had a brilliant performance against France’s Christopher Hippocrate to win all of the three rounds on the judges’ scorecards.

Australia’s 20-year-old Jye Dixon, China’s Liu Chuang and Mongolia’s Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu are all members of the next generations at the 55kg but they defeated their tough Turkish, Polish and Swedish opponents today.

The favourites of the men’s 55kg, the previous World Champions as Kazakhstan’s Makhmud Sabyrkhan and Uzbekistan’s Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov both had emerging victories over Mexico’s Bryan Ortiz and India’s Pawan Bartwal.

Netherlands’ Kian Terwint is only 19 but he had some excellent victories already in the first year of his elite age. The Dutch teenager shocked Croatia’s Ivica Arbanas with his strength and he needed less than one round to finish the job.

Bulgaria’s Javier Ibanez had a hard start against United States’ newcomer Orlando Zamora but he managed to beat his opponent to meet Ireland’s Thady Joyce in the next round.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Nurbek Oralbay had a massive opener in Liverpool, he dominated his fight against Ukraine’s Matvii Razhba while another favourite, France’s Yojerlin Cesar was also amazing on Day4.

New Zealand’s best male boxer, Taj Kagho lost to Fiji’s Aminiasi Saratibau which was a surprise at the men’s 80kg.
