Today’s winners celebrated their medals in Liverpool

All of today’s winners are now guaranteed medallists at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool where the quarter-finals were on the agenda.

Italy’s Sirine Charaabi used the best strategy against Turkey’s World Champion Hatice Akbas and she shocked her top opponent in the first and second rounds. The referee counted both boxers in the third and Charaabi was able to keep the advantage until the last gong.

Brazil’s Rebeca Santos replaced the star Beatriz Ferreira well enough and she defeated Colombia’s Camila Camilo to earn a medal in Liverpool where Poland’s Aneta Rygielska, Kazakhstan’s Viktoriya Grafeyeva and China’s Yang Chengyu are the further medallist at the 60kg weight class.

Ireland’s European Games winner Aoife O’Rourke had a tough but successful mission against Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad and further stars such as Turkey’s Busra Isildar, China’s World Champion Wang Lina and Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree are also medallists at the women’s 75kg.

Poland’s Agata Kaczmarska faced with a World Champion boxer from China, Zhan Yilian and after the equal first and second rounds, she stepped into the gas well to beat the favourite of the women’s +80kg.

Spain’s first guaranteed medal in the World Championships was achieved by Rafael Lozano who controlled the first and second rounds against Mongolia’s Bilguunsaikhan Kharkhuu which was enough to join the semi-finals at the 55kg.

Jordan’s best boxer, Zeyad Eshaish eliminated Uzbekistan’s Shavkatjon Boltayev and the super talented teenager from Kazakhstan, Torekhan Sabyrkhan also managed to beat France’s Makan Traore at the 70kg.

Azerbaijan’s Loren Alfonso had a tough quarter-final at the 90kg, but Uzbekistan’s Turabek Khabibullayev, Brazil’s returning Isaias Filho and Spain’s Emmanuel Reyes won their meetings more easier.
