Great day for Greece and Ireland in Ostrava

The Greek and the Irish boxers delivered fantastic performance at the European U19 Boxing Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic on Day3.

Greece’s Nearchos Konstantinoudis joined the international stage of boxing four years ago and his brilliant technical skills delivered a clear success for him against Bulgaria’s Angel Dimitrov before Ireland’s Sean McCusker’s fantastic performance.

Finland’s Aapo Rovanperae competed at the U19 World Championships one year ago but his success over Romania’s European Junior Champion Fabian Mihai Stroe was a surprise at the 60kg.

The Baltic boxers worked well at the 60kg, firstly Latvia’s Nikolajs Zamjatins dominated his bout against Bosnia & Herzegovina’s Tarik Huric, secondly Lithuania’s Simonas Puniskis eliminated Poland’s Igor Soczowka.

Ireland’s John Maher started his campaign well in Ostrava but he could expect a harder battle against Romania’s European medallist Darius Stegari as second. The Irish 65kg boxer controlled the first round and surprisingly he finished the job in the second with a stoppage.

Montenegro’s Danilo Markovic also started well the competition in the recent preliminary stage and he used the same style of boxing in his next contest against Czech Republic’s Simon Stojka which was another victory for the Montenegrin.

Greece’s Emmanouil Fotiadis is a European Junior Champion and he had the second remarkable performance in Ostrava today. The Greek No.1 increased his tempo in the second round against Norway’s Eldar Redzic and stopped his opponent at the 65kg.

Hungary’s Robert Buzas gained the control against Italy’s Matteo De Micco in the first round and he ruled the middle of the ring in this contest. The Hungarian knew his Italian opponent from the preparation camp and he eliminated the Italian at the 70kg.
