Surprise winners and top stars are in the semi-finals in Ostrava

There were several surprises in the first part of the quarter-finals at the European U19 Boxing Championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic on Day5 but many of the stars joined the medal phase.

Poland’s Natalia Niewiadomska had a great start in Ostrava and she met Azerbaijan’s best U19 female boxer, Banuchichak Nasirli as next in the quarter-finals. The Polish 48kg girl was not able to repeat her previous performance and she suffered an unexpected loss today.

France’s No.1 in the team, the Youth World silver medallist Maloe Teresi is in amazing shape this year and she tried to gain the immediate control against Lithuania’s Jelizaveta Jakimova. The Baltic boxer proved her strong progress but Teresi’s technical skills decided their quarter-final while Mathilde Fragnieres also secured a medal for France.

Sweden’s best talent in women’s boxing, the 18-year-old Medina Zaman dominated her first contest in Ostrava and she tried to do the same strategy against Poland’s Zuzanna Golebiewska. The Polish girl had a great finish in their meeting and she eliminated Sweden’s medal favourite in the key contest of the category.

England’s U19 World Champion Ela-Mae Lonsdale is one of the icons in this age group and she managed her pathway to the last four after beating Hungary’s Noemi Raba at the 60kg.

Denmark’s new sensation in the men’s team, the 18-year-old Rida Al-Tamimi impressed in his opener in Ostrava, and he continued his winning path against Kosovo’s Riad Isufi, proving the best performance at the men’s 50kg weight category.

Georgia’s Luka Chkhikvadze and Latvia’s Nikolajs Zamjatins both are among the most experienced male boxers at the 60kg. The Georgian was favoured by three out of the five judges in this hectic quarter-final therefore he marched to the medal bouts in Ostrava.
