Escarcega, Herrero, Buelga and Vogels are the top junior girls at the Boxam

Escarcega, Herrero, Buelga and Vogels claimed women’s junior titles in the Boxam Tournament in Benidorm today.

Mexico’s Thais Escarcega and Ukraine’s Oleksandra Cherevata met in the first contest of the day at the women’s junior light flyweight (48kg). The taller Ukrainian used her distance in this final but the Mexican had the aggressive style of boxing and the speed to win this contest.

The next Mexican, Evelyn Ramirez met a local boxer from Spain, Amaya Herrero who had only 14 contests before this flyweight (50kg) final. The Mexican was more experienced than her Spanish opponent but Herrero fought from her heart and she won this close contest.

Spain’s best female junior boxer, Andrea Buelga Garcia had the advantage in terms of routine against Switzerland’s promising Maelle Bader at the light bantamweight (52kg) final. The Spaniard had excellent defensive skills in all of the three rounds and she landed nice hooks to win their tactical final bout.

Spain’s India Garcia and Mexico’s Dulce Gomez faced in the final of the women’s junior bantamweight (54kg) in La Nucia. The Mexican moved forward without any stoppage and she looked one size bigger than her Spanish opponent but Garcia had the right responses tactically and she won this final bout.

Following Mexico’s Alisma Contreras’ success at the featherweight (57kg), Netherlands’ Zoe Vogels tried to repeat her semi-final performance in the final contest as well. The 16-year-old Dutch tried to keep her smaller Mexican opponent, Dara Orozco on long, and her counter-attacks guaranteed the success for Vogels.

Mexico’s Aylin Sigala lost to her teammate Gladys Mendoza at the women’s youth 48kg. The next Mexican girl, who succeeded in the Boxam, was Devany Ramirez who stopped Spain’s Paula Gomez at the 54kg.
