Bandomo, Silva and Castaneda were the best male U19 boxers in in the Boxam
Spain’s Youth World silver medallist Yolber Bandomo, Portugal’s Rhenan Silva and Mexico’s Marcos Castaneda were the bests in the youth male finals of the Boxam in Benidorm.
Ulster sent powerful boxers to the competition and their best youth talent in Northern Ireland, Caoimhin Connolly had the amazing fighting spirit to beat Mexico’s Edgar Gabriel Morales in the final of the 50kg.
Portugal’s Rhenan Silva started his final slowly as yesterday which gave chance for Spain’s Adam Kasmaoui to open the first round with heavy shots. As in the semi-final bout, Silva was better minutes by minutes and his enthusiasm turned back the final to earn a gold medal for Portugal in the men’s youth level as well.
Mexico’s Marcos Castaneda stopped his teammate, Mateo Lavariega in the final of the 60kg while Spain’s Moustapha Chadlioui had an emotional success over Mexico’s Christopher Fabian Lucas at the 65kg.
Kane Brannigan became the next Irish hero in the Boxam Tournament, he had an excellent rhythm against Mexico’s Jorge Luis Nieblas and after the third standing count, the Portuguese referee stopped the 70kg final.
Yolber Daniel Bandomo, the Youth World silver medallist, returned to the international events in this Boxam Tournament and he had a tough semi-final against a Mexican opponent, David Reyes. He met another Mexican, Fabrizio Lopez in the final and he knocked down his rival in the second round which guaranteed his impressive success.
Mexico’s Ian Gael Perez defeated Spain’s Samuel Antezana at the 85kg weight class, and after that a neutral boxer, Stanislau Zhylianin claimed a gold medal following his success over Mexico’s Angel Cabanas.
Mexico’s Jose Pacheco landed dozens of punches in the first round and he dictated the tempo against Cesar Juarez in the +90kg final.
