North Macedonia’s next event, the Golden Gong Tournament has a bright history  

The next 54^th edition of the Golden Gong Tournament will take place in North Macedonia on November 14-17.

The venue of the Golden Gong Tournament will be the Boris Trajkovski Sports Hall and the event has a bright history.

The Golden Gong Tournament was launched in Yugoslavia in 1969 and it has quickly became a strong international event, and a good brand name in the boxing world.

Legendary boxing champions such as Ace Rusevski, Mirko Puzovic, Bulgaria’s Toncho Tonchev, Russia’s Andrey Balanov, and England’s Olympic Champions as Luke Campbell and Galal Yafai.

Among the Cuban Olympic Champions, Julio Cesar La Cruz and Robeisy Ramirez won the Golden Gong Tournament in the 2010 edition and other stars from the Caribbean boxing power amazed 15 years ago.

Yugoslavia’s star in the 1970s, Slobodan Kacar won the event several times and he delighted the Golden Gong Tournament with his impressive strength.

North Macedonia became independent in the beginning of the 1990s and three of their boxers won the titles in the 1993 edition representing the new country.

Veli Mumin, Primislav Dimovski and Muhamed Alija were North Macedonia’s best boxers in the beginning of the 2000s and the trio won the Golden Gong Tournament several times.

The women’s boxers could compete in the Golden Gong Tournament for the very first time in 2005 but the competition remained mostly as elite men event.

The last 53^rd edition of the Golden Gong Tournament was held in Skopje, North Macedonia where several of the stars competed for the medals as many of the Olympians used the event as preparations before Paris.

Japan’s World Champion and Asian Games winner Sewon Okazawa had a tough light middleweight (71kg) final against Hungary’s Dominik Enekes which was the best contest of the last Golden Gong on May 2024.
