Bulgaria, Slovenia, Germany and Israel earned medals in Budva today
Bulgaria, Slovenia, Germany and Israel are among the medallist nations at the European U15 Boxing Championships in Budva.
Montenegro’s Ivan Tijanic and Ukraine’s Mark Faniian opened the fifth competition day in Budva in a tight tactical contest. The Ukrainian worked from longer range slightly more effective than the local boy therefore Faniian will now meet Hungary’s Bohdan Pankovics in the semi-finals of the 57kg.
Ireland’s Kieran McDonagh, who began boxing at the age of 7, was absolutely brilliant in the next quarter-final at the 57kg, he dominated his bout over Turkey’s Vesim Varcin and he will face Czech Republic’s Rene Polak in the last four.
Slovenia did not achieve medals in most of the previous editions of the Europeans but Maik Stojnic put the country back to the boxing map with his success over Turkey’s Omer Celik and he will meet Georgia’s Aleksi Gunia in the last four.
Germany was not so successful in the recent four days in this European Championship but their Kirill Sawazki was confident from the first seconds against Hungary’s Richard Kovacs.
Azerbaijan’s Yusif Aghakishiyev destroyed Romania’s Renato Bratu within less than one round at the 75kg which delivered another great battle between Thomas O’Reilly and England’s Levi Valler with a great Irish victory.
Bulgaria’s Valeri Todorov was too strong for Greece’s Mathias Logkos who looked seriously exhausted in the third round of their 80kg quarter-final. Following the Bulgarian medal, Azerbaijan’s Mehran Rasulov eliminated one of the gold medal favourites, Georgia’s Giorgi Guledani.
Italy’s Achille Vinciati won the first quarter-final at the 90kg after his easy success over Lithuania’s Jonas Vokietaitis but Poland’s Marcel Durys and Israel’s Gimelfarb Guy also bagged medals in this category.
