Nurmakhan and Shokirjonov won key contests at the Asian Youth Games

The boxing event of the Asian Youth Games turned to its medal phase in Bahrain and today’s winners are guaranteed medallists now.

The women and men boxers from the 2009 and 2010 age groups are eligible to compete in the Asian Youth Games which is one of the most important multisport events of the year.

DPR Korea new sensationAn Phyong Guk eliminated Bhutan’s Pema Namdel at the boys’ flyweight (50kg) in the quarter-finals.

Kazakhstan’s Zhumagali Nurmakhan and Tajikistan’s Bekhruz Umarov both claimed titles in previous international championships but they had to meet each other already in the quarter-finals of the 50kg. Nurmakhan is Kazakhstan’s No.1 in the event and he was slightly better than the CIS Junior Games winner.

Iran’s Matin Chamipa is their most experienced boxer in this age group who had a clear success over South Korea’s Lee Jun Hui to take a medal at the bantamweight (54kg) after Doszhan Zhumakan’s tight victory in the key bout of this category.  

Kyrgyzstan’s strongest boxer in the junior age group, Zubair Akramov smashed Iraq’s Abbas Fadhli Al-Azraqi in their lightweight (60kg) quarter-final and he will now meet Tajikistan’s Abubakr Azimov for the title bout.

Uzbekistan’s Ibrokhim Shokirjonov is another amazing boxer in the Games who eliminated Kazakhstan’s Emir Mukhit in the best fight of the 60kg.

Sanzhar Matassov impressed in the China Belt & Road Festival two months ago and he controlled his quarter-final over Afghanistan’s Tabish Sediqi at the 75kg weight class.

Uzbekistan’s Asian Junior silver medallist Diyorbek Murodilloyev dominated the first round against Philippines’ Justin James Zampatti and he finished the job in the second. China’s Guan Yiwen and Iran’s Mehrshad Sherafatmand Deyman also joined the semi-finals of the boys’ 75kg.
