Mayer defeats Spencer, becomes three-division world champion
Mikaela Mayer (22-2, 5 KOs) defeated Mary Spencer (10-3, 6 KOs) on Thursday night in Montreal, Canada and became three-division world champion.
Mayer won clear via unanimous decision (100-90, 98:92, 98:92) and became unified champion in super-welterweight division winning WBA, WBC and WBO World titles.
Mayer was world champion also in welterweight division and super-featherweight division.
She won also WBC Interim World title in lightweight.
“The most important thing is that I have options,” the world titlist claimed.”I’d love to do both – go back down to 147lb for undisputed, then come back up and defend at 154lb.” Mayer has more than good reason to feel comfortable with the options she’s presented with. She remains the WBO welterweight champion of the world, meaning that jumping up and down from one division to the next is more than feasible at this point. It’s all a far cry than the struggles Mayer was facing not so long ago.
