Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama earned gold medals at the boxing event of the Central American Games

The boxing competition of the Central American Games was a great success, the host Guatemalans claimed five gold medals on home soil. Nicaragua bagged four while Panama two gold medals in the Games.

Guatemala’s Aylin Jamez and Panama’s Yuliett Hinestroza both impressed in the recent competitions and their final at the women’s 51kg was excellent in the Games. The Panamanian proved her strong progress in terms of tactics and technics and she won the first female final of the event.

Guatemala’s Dulce Diaz lost to Nicaragua’s Leyser Palacios at the women’s 54kg final while El Salvador’s best female boxer, Gabriela Carcamo was also not able to beat her Nicaraguan opponent, Eylin Perez at the 57kg title bout.

Yaritza Mejia continued Nicaragua’s female successes, she defeated Guatemala’s Jackelin Galvez at the 60kg. Guatemala’s local favourite, Maria Chiroy had the routine to Nicaragua’s Edelma Picado at the 65kg final and she kept the gold medal on home soil.

Guatemala’s big puncher Jose Felipe Mijangos destroyed his opponent’s defence, and he dominated the men’s 55kg final against Panama’s Martin Perez. The next Guatemalan hope, Brandol Perez also succeeded in the day of the finals when he triumphed over Irvin Ibarguen of Panama.

Panama’s next finalist, the experienced Eduardo Beckford won several international contests in the recent three years and he had the stronger punches against Guatemala’s Jason Crooks to beat his final opponent at the 70kg.

Guatemala’s Jorge Ochoa delivered the next sensational performance in the Games when he stopped El Salvador’s Joshua Lopez at the 80kg. His teammate, Miguel Alejandro Teo dominated the heavyweight (90kg) in the competition, the referee confirmed his RSC triumph over Nicaragua’s Byron Charly in the third round.
