Switzerland’s Anna Jenni and Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad won the Tammer Tournament in style
Switzerland’s Anna Jenni and Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad continued their strong performances at the 45th edition of the Tammer Tournament in Tampere, Finland.
France’s Mayssoun Bourega joined the women’s national team only this year but she had the strong performance to beat Finland’s Laura Myllymaeki at the 51kg while Australia’s Amber Farraway made a surprise success at the 60kg.
Thailand’s Natnicha Chongprongklang is the defending Asian Champion at the women’s 54kg despite her young age of 21. The Thai talent defeated England’s returning Ivy-Jane Smith in the final of the Tammer Tournament, continuing her winning path.
Her teammate in the Thai national team, another Asian Champion, Punrawee Ruenros, used her brilliant footwork to beat England’s Vivien Parsons at the 57kg final bout and she bagged the Southeast Asian boxing power’s next title.
Switzerland’s best female boxer, Anna Jenni controlled all of her contests in the Tammer Tournament and she had a superb mission against Canada’s Rachel Bourdon at the women’s 65kg weight class.
Norway’s No.1, the Paris Olympian and the Youth World Champion Sunniva Hofstad had a fantastic year and she won several preparation tournaments. The Norwegian not only controlled the first round against Canada’s Maeva Montemiglio but she stopped her opponent at the 75kg final.
Ireland’s Olympian Jude Gallagher and his teammate at the 70kg, Jon McConnell claimed titles in the Tammer Tournament after beating Thailand’s Sakda Ruamtham and Scotland’s young Sonny Kerr in their finals.
Finland’s best male boxer, Ismail Umar used his longer reach well enough to beat France’s Mohamed Ounai at the 65kg but England’s duo, Kyle Shaw-Tullin (75kg) and Isaac Okoh (90kg) also impressed in the new edition of the Tammer Tournament.
