Former Italian champion Alessandro Scapecchi dies aged 66

Former Italian lightweight and super-lightweight champion Alessandro Scapecchi has passed away at the age of 66 after a long battle with leukemia. Scapecchi challenged for the European title three times but came up short every time but the losses came to the likes of future world champs Patrizio Oliva, Terry Marsh and Tex Nkanlankete.

He beat the likes of then future EBU champ Lucio Cusma and Argentinian veteran Juan Jose Gimenez in a fight for the national super-lightweight title. Alessandro Scapecchi fought professionally from1980 through 1987 and was throughout his career promoted by the Cavini family and remained in the team as a trainer.
