Bulgaria’s capital, Sofia will be the host of the 2026 European Elite Boxing Championships next September

The management of the European Boxing announced Bulgaria’s capital city, Sofia as the host of the 2026 edition of the European Elite Boxing Championships.

The President of the Bulgarian Boxing Federation, Mr. Krasimir Ininski issued a statement three weeks ago about his plans to host the next European Championships in Bulgaria on September 2026.

The next edition of the European Elite Boxing Championships will take place in Sofia on September 15-26 in 2026.

The Bulgarian Boxing Federation has a professional staff and the country hosted several top events in the recent nearly 15 years including Youth World Championships, European Championships in various age groups.

Bulgaria’s city, Samokov was the host of the 2015 edition of the European Elite Boxing Championships and the event will return to the country after 11 years.

The top Bulgarian boxers earned medals in the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool, they had record-breaking quotas at the Paris Olympics and European Champions in all levels of the sport.

Bulgaria’s star, Radoslav Rosenov defended his throne at the European U23 Championships in Budapest where he claimed his eighth continental title. His teammates, Viktorio Iliev and William Cholov bagged silver medals in the event which finished over the weekend.

“For the Bulgarian Boxing Federation, it is a great honour, privilege and responsibility to host such a large and significant event as the 2026 European Men’s and Women’s Championships. This is a very important moment in our shared history.

We thank European Boxing for the trust and for choosing Bulgaria to host the first Elite Championships under their leadership. Over the years, the Bulgarian Boxing Federation has proven itself as a world-class organizer,” said Mr. Krasimir Ininski after the announcement.
