Erislandy Alvarez survives knockdown, defeats Rogelio Jimenez
Olympic gold medal winner Erislandy Alvarez (6-0, 2 KO) survived a shock moment and defeated via unanimous decision Mexican, Rogelio Osvaldo Jimenez Laguna, in the main fight of event held in Varadero, Cuba on Saturday night.
In round nine Alvarez was dropped by Jimenez, but he controlled the fight and in end judges saw him as winner (96:94, 96:94 and 98:91) and Alvarez defended WBA Continental Latin Americas title.
It was the second Cuba Boxing Night organized by Agon Sports.
In co-main event Lazaro Alvarez (9-0) defeated Raul Hernandez of Mexico (15-4-2) via unanimous decision in fight for WBA Continental Americas lightweight title. Judges scored 98:92, 100:90 and 99:91 for Lazaro.
Moussa Gholam also defended WBA Continental Americas Gold title in superfeatherweight. And talented Cubans Alejandro Claro Fiz, Keylor Garcia, Nelson Williams and Saidel Horta also had successful professional boxing debuts.
