Norway’s sensation, Sunniva Hofstad – It is a huge honour for me that I got the Best Female Boxer award in Budapest

Norway’s Paris Olympian and Youth World Champion Sunniva Hofstad not only claimed the title of the women’s 75kg weight class at the European U23 Boxing Championships in Budapest but she was announced as the Best Female Boxer of the competition.

Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad was too strong for her final opponent, Ukraine’s Olha Pylypchuk and she underlined that she is one of the most promising stars in women’s boxing.

“I was very happy to travel with the Norwegian team to this European U23 Boxing Championships and I felt that I prepared well for this challenge.

I met an English girl in my first fight in Budapest, she was an opponent I have faced before, and I defeated her once again with precise and clear punches.

I had to meet a Ukrainian girl in my final bout, which I had never boxed before. I expected her to come forward more, but after reading her in the first half of the opening round, I found my rhythm and timing with the punches. I felt the full control, boxed smart, and I am proud of my overall performance throughout the championships.

The European U23 Boxing Championships also resulted in me the award of the Best Female Boxer, which is a huge honour for me. I am very grateful to my whole team, they shape me into the athlete I am.

The European U23 Boxing Championships was well-organized, and I enjoyed watching other boxers to compete in Budapest. I am going home grateful for the experience, the atmosphere, and the memories and I am so excited everything that is ahead.

Now I will have a short Christmas break before starting up again in January. I don’t know my next event yet, it could be Algarve, the Golden Girl or the Strandja Memorial, we will see that with my coaches and the team,” said Norway’s No.1, Sunniva Hofstad after the European U23 Boxing Championships.
