Mueller, Beridze, Maughan and Akduman won key preliminary contests in Kienbaum on Day2

Yannick Mueller, Shalva Beridze, Michael Maughan and Berat Akduman won key preliminary contests at the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany on Day2.

Azerbaijan’s Aykhan Hasanov impressed this year and after two rounds of fight, it looked that he will be able to beat Turkey’s Berat Akduman but his opponent had a great finish and won their close meeting by 3:2 decision.

England’s Azaan Hussain and Georgia’s Emil Ismailovi both were favourites at the 50kg weight but the first had the punctual attacks to win their final-level contest today.

Netherlands’ Samir Arndell amazed in the preparation tournaments in Hungary and in Spain and the 15-year-old boxer looked stronger than England’s Michael Maughan but his opponent’s third round was decisive between them.

The Latvians had excellent results at the European U15 Championships and their U17 team is also stronger than in the past. Their Martins Kusners had the stamina and the great finish to beat Poland’s Mateusz Kiwka at the 75kg weight class.

Hungary’s Alex Domjan shocked his Lithuanian opponent, Pijus Duonela today, he needed only 50 seconds to stop his opponent at the 75kg weight class.

Germany had some brilliant victories in the first competition day and their Yannick Mueller controlled the opening and the second rounds well enough to beat Romania’s last year’s bronze medallist, Andrei Iofciu.

Croatia has impressive heavyweight boxers in all of the age groups and their new U17 talent, Tomislav Japirko dominated his opener with a stoppage against Albania’s Irgian Piraniqi.

Germany’s Lorin Sayim opened her campaign Ireland’s Ella Archbold and she won all of the three rounds closely to join the quarter-finals of the women’s 57kg in Kienbaum where Hungary’s Zsofia Kiss was dominant over Lithuania’s Eva Elvikyte in this weight.

Georgia’s Boxam Tournament winner Shalva Beridze used his extraordinary technical skills to eliminate Italy’s Mattia Fortunato at the men’s 48kg weight, controlling all of the three rounds.
