Wu Yu eliminated another gold medal favourite at the Asian Elite Boxing Championships on Day1

China’s Wu Yu won a final-level contest over Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat at the Asian Elite Boxing Championships in Mongolia’s capital city, in Ulaanbaatar on Day1.

Bhutan, China, DPR Korea, India, Indonesia, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Tajikistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam are the 21 participating nations in Ulaanbaatar.

Xian Baguhin is a new elite national team member in the Philippines but the 51kg female boxer was able to eliminate Singapore’s best hope in Ulaanbaatar, the experienced Danisha Mathialagan.

Japan’s Yuna Nishinaka suffered a loss to South Korea’s veteran Bak Cho Rong in the next 51kg female contest but her teammate, the Olympics bronze medallist returning Tsukimi Namiki impressed against Singapore’s Wann Chee Wai Kei at the 54kg.

Thailand’s defending Asian Champion Natnicha Chongprongklang was patient in all of the three rounds against Uzbekistan’s Khumorabonu Mamajonova and she eliminated her opponent.

The host nation’s first boxer in action was the 30-year-old Byamba-Erdene Otgonbaatar and he landed the stronger punches than Philippines’ Norlan Petecio at the 70kg. China’s Wang Peicheng and Jordan’s Zeyad Eshaish dominated their openers in this weight class.

Kyrgyzstan’s Eldar Turdubayev and Turkmenistan’s Asian Games bronze medallist Bayramdurdy Nurmuhammedov both are big punchers and among them the first won their hectic and tight meeting at the 70kg.
