Legendary boxing matches – Legendary boxers: Boxer with the most fights

Author: Zizi

There are matches, which are never to be forgotten, and there are boxing icons, who are going to stay with us for eternity.

Nowadays we are lucky if we can watch our favourite professional boxer in the ring twice or in extreme case three times a year. Well, back in time, around 100 years ago, this was a little bit different.

Fighters did boxing for a living and they usually stepped in the ring almost every month, but a few of them raised the bet and did it more often. The best of them, the absolute record holder, Len Wickwar sometimes fought three times a week!

The British fighter fought from 1928 until 1947 and during his two decades in the business he had a total of 467 matches. Yeah, this is the record, which will live with us until eternity and no one will ever surpass it. Wickwar won 340 of his fights and he has spent more than 4,000 rounds in the ring. It is simply mind-blowing.

Fun fact: Despite of his almost 500 matches in the ring, he had a pretty long life, and after his career as a boxer, he lived in Leicester and worked for a local company as a packer and labourer. He died in 1980, at the age of 69.
