Japan selected its elite team at the specific National Box-offs

The Japanese Boxing Federation arranged a Box-offs for their best elite boxers in Tokyo to select the team for the upcoming international competitions.

A sensational boxer, Hikaru Shinohara was Asian Youth Champion in 2019 and she waited for six years to be in the elite national team in Japan.

Yuna Nishinaka was selected at the women’s 51kg weight class and Satsuki Yoshizawa will represent Team Japan at the women’s 57kg.

Korin Kokofu is a young boxer at the 54kg but she proved her strong progress against Toyo’s Mikoto Harada to win the selection bout.

Ayaka Taguchi achieved medals in the Asian Championship and other events, furthermore she was near to qualify for the Paris Olympics as well. The Japanese lightweight (60kg) boxer won the Box-offs against Sarii Kokofu and she can be a strong medal contender in the upcoming elite competitions.

Soushi Makino moved down to the 50kg weight class and he worked hard to beat Shodai Koto in the final of the Box-offs before Komazawa’s Rui Yamaguchi defeated Seijiro Mizoguchi at the men’s 55kg.

Shunsuke Kitamoto worked hard against the Asian Championships silver medallist Sota Nakayama to take the tile of the 60kg in a fantastic final battle.

Shion Nishiyama represented Japan in the previous three years and he was one step away to qualify for Paris. The technician boxer won two out of the three rounds against the experienced Yuta Akiyama and he took the title of the 65kg.

The World Champion Sewon Okazawa qualified for the Tokyo and the Paris Olympics as well but he had to do his very best against Rento Tanaka to win the men’s 70kg weight class.

Daigo Sunaga competed at the 2018 Youth World Championships and returned to the top after beating Hibiki Kawabata while Go Wakaya can continue his pathway in the elite national team at the 80kg.
