More than 600 boxers have registered to the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament

More than 600 boxers have registered to participate in the next edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament will be held in Eger, Hungary on May 19-25.

The upcoming Bornemissza Memorial will arrange for the U19, U17 and U15 boxers and for both genders in Hungary’s historic city.

The Bornemissza Memorial Tournament is one of the oldest European international competitions next to the Strandja Memorial, the Golden Gloves and the Bocskai Memorial.

Austria, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Sweden and Ukraine will be participating in the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament.

The Italians arrived to Eger four days ago to participate in a pre-training camp with the Hungarian U19 and U17 national teams.

Ukraine will send a huge delegation to the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament, their boxers will cover almost all of the weight categories in each age group in Eger.

Several of the European medallists in various age groups, international tournament winners, Asian medallist and promising talents will be competing in Hungary from May 20 which is the first competition day.

Most of the finals of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament will take place on May 24 and the departure of the delegations is May 25.

The competition was named after a Hungarian lieutenant, a national hero, Gergely Bornemissza who supported the defence of the Castle of Eger during the Ottoman Siege in 1552.

The 2011 and 2012 born boxers can participate in the U15 schoolboys and schoolgirls age group in the Bornemissza.

The 2009 and the 2010 age group for both genders will compete in the U17 junior age group in Eger.

The 2007 and 2008 born boxers will be eligible to attend in the U19 youth level of boxing in 20 different weight categories.
