Marathon session at the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament on Day2

A marathon program with 116 bouts took place in the second competition day at the 74th edition of the Bornemissza Memorial Tournament in Eger, Hungary.

The traditional Bornemissza Memorial arranged for the U19, U17 and U15 boxers and for both genders in Hungary’s historic city where 510 boxers are participating for the medals and prizes.

The Bornemissza Memorial Tournament is one of the oldest European international competitions next to the Strandja Memorial.

Italy’s Vincenzo Viola (46kg), Alessandro Falcone (50kg) and Simone Rosario (52kg) impressed in the U15 age group, the trio were confident in their meetings against experienced opponents.

One of the best Hungarian U15 boxers, Levente Varga dominated his opening bout at the 42kg weight class, he defeated Estonia’s Matvei Sumjakov before Finland’s Rolan Sigajev triumphed in this category with powerful combinations.  

Finland’s Aleksi Lindgren eliminated Hungary’s Levente Nagy at the U15 57kg weight class, while another Nordic boxer, Denmark’s Milo Thorslund (63kg) also shined against a local opponent, Csongor Varga on Day2.  

The best Hungarian U17 male boxers such as Aron Kekesdy, Hunor Asztalos and Istvan Czifra all won their contests on Day2. The Pirkka Tournament winner Asztalos defeated his Finnish opponent within 10 days twice and he marched to the next stage of boxing.

Ukraine’s Viktor Bilohub battled with France’s new U17 national team member, Amine Jarir-Benali at the 66kg weight class and due to his great finish, he won the best bout of the day by 3:2 split decision.

Netherlands’ new U17 sensation, Samir Arndell had the advantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds but he finished the job against Ukraine’s Yaroslav Zavorotnyi in the third on their 75kg battle.
