Brule, Bequet, Sanchez and Snodden were the best schoolboys and juniors at the Portimao Box Cup
Several schoolboys and junior talents shined in the final day at the Portimao Box Cup in Portugal today and among them Brule, Bequet, Sanchez and Snodden were the best gold medallists.
Portugal’s Alexy Brule enjoyed the support of the local crowd and the Portimao-based boxer won the schoolboys’ 38kg weight class against George Petherick today.
Tao Bequet is a southpaw at the 43kg weight class and the French tried to dictate the tempo against Alfie-James Powney in their final meeting. Bequet had excellent footwork in this final bout and he proved his strong progress to take the gold medal in Portugal.
France’s next big prospect, Kenzo Belin and England’s Rogan Cardwell made the great show in the schoolboys’ level of boxing, their 46kg final was technically brilliant today. The French boxer had the enthusiasm in all of the three rounds and he won an important international title.
Portugal’s Lisandro Pinto lost to Ireland’s Jayden Wall at the schoolboys 56kg final bout but he was highly competitive until the last gong.
France’s top junior talent, Noa Sanchez was smaller than Pablo Serrano but he worked from counter-attacking range in their junior light flyweight (48kg) final. Sanchez was relaxed, focused and he kept the full concentration to win their title contest in Portimao.
France’s Bilel Jeddi has excellent defensive skills but he was counted by the referee in the first round when he received a strong jab from Ireland’s Lee Largey Snodden. The French boy was not able to repeat his previous performance and the Irish bagged the gold medal in the Portimao Box Cup.
Alfie Cross turned back his semi-final at the men’s junior featherweight (57kg) and he used the same counter-attacking style against Spain’s Manuel Bueno in the final effectively therefore he succeeded.
