Baricuatro and Grau won the tightest bouts in Astana

Philippines’ Jay Bryan Baricuatro and France’s Hugo Grau won the tightest contests at the Astana World Boxing Cup on Day3.

Altogether 29 nations and 250 boxers are participating in the Astana World Boxing Cup in Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan’s World Champion Sanzhar Tashkenbay is only 22-year-old but he is now the No.1 at the men’s 50kg, which he demonstrated against Japan’s Shodai Koto using his unpredictable footwork to catch his opponent.

Philippines’ Jay Bryan Baricuatro is a newcomer in the elite national team but he had the technical skills and the stamina to eliminate India’s Jadumani Singh Mandengbam at the men’s 50kg weight class by 3:2 split decision.

France’s Hugo Grau had to work hard in the recent one year to be the best in his homeland at the 65kg and he used his heart and stamina to eliminate a super talented Bulgarian, the 19-year-old Viktorio Iliev on Day3.

India’s Abhinash Jamwal had a debut in the international stage at the World Olympic Qualifiers last year but he is now more experienced and eliminated Azerbaijan’s top boxer, Malik Hasanov while United States’ Rene Camacho and Kazakhstan’s Yertugan Zeinullinov also won their meetings at the 65kg.

England’s Teagn Stott won several competitions in the recent one year and he had the good opener against Bulgaria’s 19-year-old Semion Boldirev, which was a hard tactical battle at the men’s 85kg weight class.

Kazakhstan’s Bekzad Nurdauletov was World Champion still in 2019 but he regained his spot in the top national team and he used the opportunity to eliminate an Australian newcomer, Lachlan Lawson in Astana.

United States’ Malachi Georges knocked out Italy’s No.1 Aziz Abbes Mouhiidine in his opener but Kazakhstan’s Asian Champion Sagyndyk Togambay handled his power well enough to win their 90kg bout unanimously.
