Team England will compete with maximum number of 20 boxers at the World Boxing Championships
England will be the host of the upcoming World Boxing Championships which will be starting on September 4 and the local team will consist 20 boxers.
Most of the English boxers joined the national team only in the recent one or two years but they have enough international routine to earn medals on home soil.
The U19 World Champion Alice Pumphrey moved down to the 48kg and the 19-year-old will be competing in her first main elite championships.
Charley Davison, the two-time Olympian is the most experienced in the national team who returned to the events only a few months ago but she has the skills to beat all of the top Asians as well.
Elise Glynn could not qualify for Paris last year but she worked hard to reach the top level of the boxers at the 57kg.
Lucy Kings-Wheatley (60kg) switched from other martial arts to boxing while Sacha Hickey, the European U23 Champion, could be one of the aces at the women’s 65kg weight class.
Kelsey Oakley (51kg), Chantelle Reid (70kg), Mary-Kate Smith (75kg), the multiple European Champion Emily Asquith (80kg) and Grace Buckle (+80kg) are the remaining female team members.
Reece Readshaw (50kg) and Ellis Trowbridge (55kg) are not enough experienced yet but they defeated some of the top boxers this year.
Jack Dryden (60kg) impressed at the Eindhoven Box Cup where he showed strong progress while Patris Mughalzai (65kg) competed in the Olympic Qualifiers last year.
The big puncher Odel Kamara (70kg) and Callum Makin (75kg) both were born in 2003 and they will represent the host city, Liverpool in the World Championships.
England’s top male boxers are in the heavier categories such as Dimeji Shittu (80kg), the European U23 Champion Teagn Stott (85kg), Isaac Okoh (90kg) and the European Youth Champion Damar Thomas (+90kg).
