Crawford defeats Canelo, makes boxing history
Terence Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) became first male boxer in four-belt era to win the undisputed title in three weight divisions.
Crawford on Saturday night in Las Vegas dethroned Saul Canelo Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) and became undisputed champion in super-middleweight division.
All three judges saw Crawford as winner (115:113, 115:113 and 116:112).
Many doubted that Crawford, former undisputed champion at super-lightweight and welterweight division could defeat Canelo.
“I told y’all I’m not here just by a coincidence. God blessed me,” Crawford said. “He made this event, and he made this night just for me. And I’ve been telling y’all that. It’s not my fault. It’s God’s.”
The size difference dominated the conversation heading into the fight, and even though both fighters weighed in at 167.5 pounds on Friday, the expectation was that Alvarez’s power and strength would overwhelm Crawford.
That didn’t happen.
“There’s no defeat here,” Canelo said “The fact that I’m here makes me already a winner. I’ve done everything in my career. I’ve come to actually take risks and that’s what I did. I take risks.”
In co-main event Christian Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KOs) and Lester Martinez (19-0-1, 16 KOs) fought to a split draw.
Fight was for WBC Interim World super-middleweight title, which Mbilli holds. Judge Chris Migliore scored fight 96:94 for Mbilli, Patricia Morse Jarman scored 97:93 for Martinz and Glenn Feldman scored it a draw 95:95.
Callum Walsh (15-0) dominated and won via unanimous decision against Fernando Vargas (17-1).
Also Brandon Adams (26-4) got a clear unanimous decision win against Serhii Bohachuk (26-3). Is the second fight that Adams wins against Bohachuk. In first fight in March 2021, Adams won via TKO in round eight.
