Bulgaria’s titleholder Radoslav Rosenov eliminated one of his main rivals in Budapest today

The three-times defending champion Radoslav Rosenov of Bulgaria opened his campaign successfully in the second competition day at the European U23 Women’s and Men’s Boxing Championships in Budapest.

Ireland’s Thady Patsy Joyce was bronze medallist at the recent World Boxing Championships but he could not repeat that performance in Budapest against Ukraine’s promising Maksym Zymenko at the men’s 55kg.

Germany’s Ali El Sari looked confident from the first seconds against Israel’s Farid Hreish and he won this Round of 16 bout at the 55kg.

Ireland’s Nee Colgan Roy Farrelly delivered one of the sensations at the 65kg weight class in Budapest where he eliminated Germany’s favourite, Denis Bril.

Azerbaijan’s Ali Abdullayev was strong on Day1 but he suffered a tight loss to Turkey’s Bilge Kagan Kanli as next. Bulgaria’s promising 19-year-old Viktorio Iliev outpointed Latvia’s Emmanuils Sidorenko and he marched to the last eight as well.

Poland’s Mateusz Urban exceeded all of the expectations in the Round of 16 at the 75kg when he eliminated of the European Champions, Dzhamal Kuliyev of Ukraine.

Hungary’s Lilla Szeleczki competed at the recent World Boxing Championships in Liverpool and she was able to use her strategy well enough against a European Champion from Ukraine, Sofiya Turbinina.

Spain’s Noelia Gutierrez is only 19-year-old but she claimed her first European medal, a silver as a junior four years ago. The Spaniard used her pressure to gain the immediate control against Ireland’s Rachel Lawless and she kept it until the last gong.

Bulgaria’s three-time European U23 Champion Radoslav Rosenov did not underestimate his Hungarian opponent, the big puncher Kruzito Kovacs and his world-class footwork paid off in their Round of 16 battle at the 60kg.
