Szeremeta, Vassallo and Polat won the tightest contests at the European U23 Boxing Championships on Day3

Poland’s No.1, Julia Szeremeta, Italy’s Martina Vassallo and Turkey’s Berfin Polat won the tightest bouts in the third competition day at the European U23 Boxing Championships in Budapest.

England’s Lauren Mackie and Ireland’s Robin Kelly opened the third competition day in Budapest which was a final-level bout at the women’s 54kg.

Poland’s Julia Szeremeta, the Olympic silver medallist, is one of the stars of the entire championships in Budapest but she had a seriously hard job against Turkey’s 19-year-old Pinar Benek in their 57kg meeting to beat her opponent by 3:2.

England’s best super heavyweight boxer in the elite national team, Damar Thomas is still in the U23 age group and he began his road to the gold medal in Budapest today.

Italy’s Martina Vassallo had a tough disadvantage on the judges’ scorecards after two rounds of fight against Hungary’s Karmen Horvath but the 19-year-old talent used her enthusiasm to make a big U-turn in the last period and she won this tight meeting by 3:2 split decision.

Scotland’s European Junior Champion Niamh Mitchell started the first round well against Berfin Polat but her opponent was better by minutes by minutes and the Turkish girl was able to win their 60kg quarter-final by close 3:2.

Bulgaria’s seven-time European Champion, Radoslav Rosenov eliminated Hungary’s Kruzito Kovacs as first and he performed in the same strong level against Italy’s Tiziano Alciati in the quarter-finals of the 60kg.

Hungary’s Levente Gemes triumphed over Turkey’s Alperen Terzi in a hectic contest while another Youth medallist, Italy’s Gabriele Guidi Rontani bowed out Georgia’s Giorgi Natroshvili in the next 75kg quarter-final.
