The first part of the quarter-finals guaranteed medal places for the winners in Kienbaum
The first guaranteed medallists are revealed at the European U17 Boxing Championships in Kienbaum, Germany on Day4.
Greece’s Angeliki Petroula Sdouga used her international experience to keep the control against Germany’s Sophie Staschewski at the 46kg. Her teammate, another top Greek girl, Lydia Tarnanidou also secured a medal after beating Israel’s Erika Zlotsky at the 60kg.
England’s No.1, Lily Bassett proved that she is one of the most technician boxers in the entire event and she joined the semi-finals after beating Ireland’s Ellen Joyce.
Ukraine’s Oleksandra Cherevata used her height advantage to keep Turkey’s Azra Nur Cetin on long from the first seconds and she succeeded in their quarter-final which guarantees a medal for her, but Croatia’s Ema Andela Zaja also impressed at the 46kg.
The Slovakians have a great U17 female team and their multiple international tournament winner Karolina Kollarova stopped Alessia Timeea Onofras before Italy’s Rachele Perna eliminated Poland’s Maria Gorzelanna in the strong women’s 60kg.
Turkey’s Nisa Kaya stepped into the gas in the second round against Croatia’s Dorotea Brnic and she won their 70kg bout by RSC. Hungary’s ace in the women’s team, Krisztina Bodnar defeated Germany’s Mara Eichhorn once again on their re-match at the +80kg.
Georgia’s Shalva Beridze was not enough effective against Bulgaria’s Nikolay Karaboykov in the first round of their quarter-final but he controlled the later parts to win the bout while Ukraine’s favourite, Mykhailo Sydorenko is also a semi-finalist at the 48kg.
The 46kg is a very strong category in the event, firstly Ireland’s Pat Stokes eliminated Italy’s Thomas Lido, secondly Azerbaijan’s Gardash Rahimov was too smart for Albania’s Mystehak Rama and both earned a medal in Kienbaum.
Nikola Raicevic and Greece’s Dimosthenis Zikos had a very similar first round in terms of number of punches but the younger Montenegrin was more technician from the second to get a medal at the 50kg.
