Albania earned a medal in the last part of the quarter-finals in Budva
The Albanians earned a guaranteed medal at the sixth competition day of the European U15 Championships in Budva.
Ireland’s Charlie Joyce Connolly was not only taller than Lithuania’s Danas Sestakovas but he had the better technical skills to earn a medal at the boys’ 63kg in Budva where his semi-final opponent will be England’s Zidane Tazeem.
Turkey’s Ercihan Demirhan was smarter in the exchanges than Romania’s Leonard Adi and he controlled all of the three rounds with his longer hands. The Turkish boxer is now a guaranteed medallist in Budva but he can expect a tough semi-final against Ukraine’s Davyd Yuldashev at the 63kg.
Bulgaria’s Nikalas Nikolov made pressure from the first seconds in his quarter-final and he took the immediate lead against Hungary’s David Tolnai. Nikolov had the better punches today to meet England’s Evander Dickinson in the semi-finals of the 66kg.
Czech Republic’s Tadeas Jasek ruled the middle of the ring against Turkey’s Arda Fidan in the first round but his opponent switched his tactics and tempo not only returning to the contest but turning it back.
Azerbaijan’s gold medal favourite, Nurlan Museyibli proved his punching power once again and he stopped Estonia’s Vladimir Nersesjan in the first round at the 66kg quarter-final.
Croatia’s Tomica Kuhar had an uncomfortable situation in the first round against Albania’s Graciano Shoshi who used his enthusiasm. Shoshi had strong fighting spirit in their quarter-final bout and he delivered Albania’s first medal in the championship.
England’s Thomas Ward was in trouble in the first round against Italy’s Pietro Guccione but he used his strength to change the image of the bout. Following his success, Georgia’s Giorgi Archaia and Hungary’s Bence Karoly also managed their road to the semi-finals.
